10g sump for 10g tank

I am thinking of buying another 10gallon to put below my tank for more water volume and space. I want to put my HOB filter, heater, and protein skimmer in it. So i was wondering should I just throw everything in the sump and get a pump to push the water back up, or how should I do this? And what size/type of pump would I need.

Might be difficult. My understanding is that most 10g tanks these days use tempered glass so you can't drill it. I'm not sure if they make a siphon overflow for a 10g but then I've never looked.

You will need to leave room in the sump for water that will back siphon when your return pump goes off. Your hang over back filter will be loud and splash with the lower water level. You can probably just ditch it as long as you have live rock. No real need for it with a sump and skimmer. You will need to drill or get a siphon overflow. On the up side a 20g or 29g would not be that much more $ or footprint.

Have a ten with a ten gallon sump. Drilled the top ten with a dremel and diamond bit. You probably can't use the HOB on the sump. My tank still has the HOB on the main tank for flow. Using a Maxijet 1200 as the return pump, it's low flow but doing the job.
