Cree LEDs are top of the line. How many LEDs are you planning on?

XREs are two generations behind. XPEs and XPGs are now the norm with XMLs emerging as the next generation. LEDs are progressing like micro processors in the 1990s.

This is true; however, the xres are still great LEDs. The royal blue xres are just slightly less efficient than the xpes. The xres will work great

You are going to need optics. I think 6-8 strips would work. How high will the LEDs be?

of course im planning on going with the 80 degree optics lens. What i have is 10 inches of limited space above the tank. What i will probably do is make two pendents on each side of the center bracing. Each pendent at least 3 or 4 strips. Is it bad to go for least 20k color temp with a dimming control?

Is what bad? Royal blue leds may put out more par than the whites if thats what you are worried about. I would do 60 degree lenses.

If you go for 6-8 strips plus optics at 80 degree or below, you should definitely get dimmable drivers. Your current light is only 78W T5 which is quite low compare to 108W LED and 144W led without a dimmer. I would say, you should go for 60 degree optics if you are spreading the fixture into two.
