Tank Setup Help!
So its been a long time since I've run a salt water reef, and I want to get it right the first time (if that's even possible).
I've got a 59G (36" x 15" x 18") and have room for a 20g Long in the cabinet for the sump. I've only got 18" clearance which limited skimmer selection. I've pretty much settled on the AquaC EV-120 and the Mag5. I've ordered the 700gph kits from Glass-Holes and and planning to run an Eheim 1260 return pump that will feed 2 loc-line returns in the top corners. The sump design: far left will be the skimmer/intake, the middle will be the return, with the fuge on the far right. With a 30" length on a 20g long I have to make the skimmer section 12" and the return section 9" and the fuge 9". Thats about a 4g fuge section. So my questions: 1. Is the return pump oversized? It will feed the 2 3/4" returns and have a T to supply the fuge. I'm kinda worried about a high rate of flow through the sump. 2. Is the fuge big enough? 4g seems small Love to hear anyone's feedback on this setup. Last edited by MasterSparky; 06/21/2011 at 02:44 PM. Reason: spelling :( |

I think the SWC Extreme 120 Cone Skimmer is a better option. Its foot print is much smaller and incorporates the pump within that footprint. Now I can shrink the skimmer/intake section and add that to the return & fuge.
