Mantis Shrimp + other fish? (split tank?)
Hi, I have been planning for a while to set up a 14 gallon biocube with a N. Wennerae mantis shrimp and a yellow tail damsel fish. I would purchase 15 pounds of liverock, with a 2-3 inch layer of substrate (CaribSea Aragonite Aragamax Oolite), and various creatures for cleanup (hermits, turbosnail, etc.). And I realize the mantis will probably kill the damsel, and thats why I have been reconsidering. I figured with the damsel gone, it would be a pretty boring tank, so I have been rethinking it. I have calculated everything to cost around 400$ initially, and I was wondering if with that money I could setup something better. Is it possible for around the same cost, (biocube with integrated light and fliter costs 170$) to setup a larger tank and split it with a portion for the mantis and the rest for other fish? I would really appreciate any feedback- thank you!

If you really want a mantis dont wasted all that money on a biocube. Just use a 10ga,l paint the back, get a flour light, and a HOB filter. Put in rock and sand and your off. I would think you could be up and running for under $100. You run the risk of a mantis killing anything you put in the tank(Fish, inverts, fingers, pains of glass).
