corals not opening under moonlight leds

so basically my corals wont open under leds but they will open under actinics, weird right

o and its a toadstool, zoas, and green star polyps

Not very strange at all. Your actinics are putting out far more PAR than typical moonlights. But that's a good thing. Your corals need that reverse cycle, so if they were getting a significant amount of light 24 hours a day, that would not be healthy.

Corals sleep too mine close up when the moonlights turn on after 15-20 minutes.

If plants can't sleep they can't grow. I always assumed (edit: photosynthetic) corals were the same, but instead of chlorophyll(sp?) you have zooxanthela(sp?).

I have 8 hours of total dark every night and that seems to be a good thing. I have LED moon lights on for 4 hours only. Even then, very dim.

are moonlights worth it? I've never had them, is it strictly for night viewing or is there some kinda response from the critters?

Moonlight is for viewing only. Ive known quite a few people who dont even use them

My LED fixtures have them so I use them. If they did not have them, I would not buy them. They are of value ONLY for viewing.
