first corals for my tank

hey guys i have a t5ho 4x54 watt light and i wanted to know if you think it can support a gbta I have rock in one section literally stacked at the top of the tank. anyways yea i wanna get him as a first coral cuz im afraid if i get him l8r he'll sting other corals. So if i dont get one do u think a sps will survive if i placed it at the top, which for u recommend as a first. Im also getting some frags of like gsp and zoas probably.

I dont know wat to do

PS the tank is fully matured its 8 months old

If you have not kept inverts before a GTBA might not be a good first attempt. otherwise those light are probably OK near the top

BTAs are not difficult to care for...Keep your parameters in line, provide enough light, and feed them a piece of krill every few days and you will never have any problems.

I got one pretty early on in my tank's life and it's growing like a weed. At the time I didn't know about the rule of thumb that says tanks should be at least 6 months old and mine was only 2 months at the time. But it's thriving and has stayed in the same spot once it came off the glass (it arrived on the back of a turbo snail, see profile pic!). It has grown to double it's size since I got it 4 months ago. I feed it twice a week as I want it to grow (it was very small when I got it) so my two clowns currently in quarantine will "fit". It only bubbles after a feeding, but it's pretty cool when it does. I have Solar Extreme T5 HO 39W x 4 for lighting.

Agreed.

I got mine after the tank was up 2 months and it's doubled in size and hasn't budged since the 1st week in the tank. This is under a 4x24w Solar Extreme T5 light, with a piece of krill every 4-5 days.

It's best to err on the side of caution of course, but I think people over-state the requirements.

BTA's do appear to be one of the most resilant species. Its why I said might as I bet it does ok, but considering the cost I'd toss in a few cheap frags just to get the hang of things first.

I have been keeping corals for 10years and got my first nem(rbta) a year ago and its about 18" from 4" with no feeding. Its threatened to move a few times and I've had to coax it back and they do sting any coral they touch.

If your tank is standard 24 inches deep or less, it should be fine.. if your coral isnt happy, leave the light on longer per day and move the coral up
