Fuge Help!!!!

Looking for some opinions on my sump set up for a newly set up 210g. Originally I was going to incorporate the fuge into my sump which is basically a 75 gallon aquarium. I am now thinking of using a rubbermaid tub for a remote fuge with a power head to feed it and gravity to return water to the sump. This would allow me to free up some space and also give me the option of taking the fuge offline if need be and not have to shut the entire sump down. Also, what are all of you putting in the fuge....I know some Chaeto, but should I go with Sand or Mud, what critters to add....etc.

Anyone done this? Sound like a good idea? Need some feedback. Getting back into the "Big" reef hobby again and its been a while. Never have used a Fuge before.

Thanks for the help. Just want to do it right the first time...

I have mine setup like you describe using a small acrylic cube sitting on a stand next to my sump. Its fed by a T on my return pump with a ball valve to adjust flow or completely cut it off and drains back down to my sump.

I put a deep sand bed, live rock, and chaeto in mine.

I'll post a pic of it when I get home.

Lots of people have fuges the way you describe. I think it's a matter of preference, space, equipment needs, etc. I say go for it if you it makes the most sense for your set up. I don't like sand or mud in my fuge but I do add live rock. I also like Chaeto for my microalgae.

I set up my 210 a few months ago and I was limited in space so I used a 75 as a sump and put the fuge in the middle of it with only cheato. I have space for a outside fuge but I think it will be a frag tank sooner or later. If I used a fuge outside of the sump I could put the dsb in it which I love but I kept it simple so I can clean my sump out easy. I may end up putting some live rock in there with the cheato but I am not sure yet.

Here is a pic where you can see the sump right after I set up the tank.
