Can a clam sit right in the sand??

Or do I have to sit it on a rock? Every place I sit him on a rock he falls over. No idea how id get him to set on a stone..

Anyone??

what type of clam we talking about? just curious on that.

yes many times their right in the sandbed. As for getting them on a rock, you have to brace them in place until they can attach themselves properly. Might take a little time. Once they do attach though, you dont' want to rip them off, as you can damage them that way. I recommend getting them to attach to a smaller piece for ease of moving them later if the need arises. I forget the correct term, byssal threads? or something like that, basically where the two shells meet is where their little threads will attach to 'whatever'. Might take a little time for them to attach securely.

I've had a maxima for about 5 months and it's still moves a little bit every now and then. I tried him in the rocks but he seems to prefer the sand. When he was in the rocks I'd always wake up to him on the sand.

I just bought one and placed it in the sand, so far so good.

Yes. That's a Derasa which is a natural sand driller.

While Derasa's are small they might attach to to the rocks but as they grow the opening that the bassial threads come out close up.
