stay far away from Octopus skimmers!

the main part on a skimmer is the pump! power went 2 days ago and I still cant get the damn pump to start up. right now... a skilter is better!!!

maybe you got a crap pump. There are thousands of happy reefers using octopus and super reef octopus pumps that would disagree with you. They are the best bang for your buck skimmers avalible,

Always use surge protectors on anything of value to you that uses electricity.

its not about a surge. the pump shut off and now when i start it up, it starts to make a grinding noise. you get what you pay for!

if it was working before you changed the parts, try assembling it again.

If it worked before you "fixed" it it's probably not the pump that failed

When power goes out on my octo, I have to blow into the air inlet to get it to restart.

This is a common issue with the Octo skimmers I have. I run everything from the cheapy ones that use the OTP pumps to the Hurricone Cat-3E in my LFS. The OTP pumps are very prone to needing are blown in the venturi after power loss. I do also have one that needs to be jarred a little to restart, other than that, I can't complain.

Just because a few people with a bad experience with Reef Octopus skimmers does not substantiate bashing a good company. As stated above there are alot of people using Reef Octopus skimmers with no problems at all. From what Ive read the company does its best to help its customers out when they do have a problem. Lets not be so quick to judge a company based on a few isolated incidents

This is a good point. I have had only one incident thusfar, a bubble blaster turned off and never turned back on. I emailed them, and two days later a replacement was at my doorstep for no cost.

What other experiences have you had with them? Have you contacted them about this current problem?

Pumps do fail, from the cheap crap ones to high end ones like bubble kings. If it is a Sicce, they are not exactly known to be trouble free. While it may be out of warranty, Im sure the skimmer is repairable, and maybe they would even help you out if you approached them in some ratioanl way

Its just constant stopping. I called up the company and they sold me a new impeller, shaft, magnet and whatever else I needed. it worked for like a few weeks but still keeps stopping. I understand that pumps fail but i didnt get this skimmer from them to try out. i bought it full price.
