i'm thinking about taking the plunge into the world of led's.
so far i like the ai fixtures. but i'm looking for pro's, con's, and opinion's from the other avaliable led fixtures.

I think AI is the most versitile and complete system out there. There is nothing it doesn't have. It should come in black though.
That said the new Mazerra looks promising, but we'll see when it comes out. others in the game-- Black Python, Vertex, Reeftech, Acan |

I do not own AI LEDs yet but have seen them and they look nice. Since they are made in USA I will be getting them soon myself. I am starting to see more and more knock off fixtures claiming to have Cree LEDs but are made in China. It reminds me of the Oakley sunglasses you can buy down in Mexico for $5 dolla? Are they?

my lfs has the ai fixtures they recently installed them over a large look down tank, so i am starting to keep an eye on the corals they have in that tank,
i like the pop and color they have the light set to, they do have the units fairly high off the tanks so im guessing the par will be affected by that. i am looking for peoples own opinions from any fixtures they have seen or tried, so i hope to get alot of responses. and the vertex units were pretty pricey per unit if i remember correctly, where the ai units were about $500 per unit. how does a single vertex unit compare to a single ai unit?

FYI, most, if not all, Cree bulbs we use in reefing are made by a US company called Cree but manufactured in China off a formerly Hong Kong LED factory.
Cree in US concentrate their efforts on other wafers for other applications. Quote:

My AI's are installed in my canopy. Don't make my room look stupid. Makes it look real nice especially when I don't have to see some fixture hanging in the middle of nowhere.

I am not debating either light. As for their rails I don't like them which is why I made my own and install each one individually so if I have a problem with any I can remove the one fixture. Works good this way for wiping them down also. As for me I never own the Vertex and I am more than happy with my AI's.

I'm in the same boat trying to figure out what unit for a 210 primarily SPS tank. The AI look too much like a rerto unit so I was looking at Acan led and the Reef tech. The only won I've been able to see first hand is the reef tech. The one I saw personaly is very sleek and has the programming on the front and much more stylish than the first ones. I'm still up in the air at the type of investment for a six foot tank.

Wow, I was just looking at the Vertex Illumina at Prem.Aq.(ddn't know they were sold in USA) What a beautiful unit.
Acan looks nice too, but only goes to 48". Boy, AI, Vertex, Reeftech(new design),Mazerra. too many choices ![]() |
