Help me decide please??

Hi all,

Ok I have a few questions and I am hoping for some help here...

1. I have an all glass 55 that I want to set up. But the middle top frame support was melted by a tipped light when I used the tank for lizards. The seals are good it is just the frame. Does it need to be replaced? Can it be replaced? If so suggestions are appreciated. I am hoping I can salvage this tank.

2. I found this tank on Craigs list..."This is a 29 gallon Oceanic Biocube Aquarium system. The filter is built into the back. Here is an explanation about the filtration; Innovative aquarium system from Oceanic Systems. Quality construction and ease of setup make the Oceanic BioCube Aquarium System a great choice for freshwater or reef hobbyists. Enhanced filtration system features dual filter intakes to draw aquarium water from the surface and mid-water for improved water circulation and filtration. Replaceable 2-stage filter cartridge provides easy-to-maintain mechanical and chemical filtration. Bio-ball trickle filter system improves gas exchange and provides efficient biological filtration. Viewing window for filtration water pump offers "at-a-glance" convenience to ensure optimum filter performance. UL-Listed submersible pumps." She has offered to include the sand and live rock and even the water if I want it.
Its smaller than I was hoping for but? She only wants 200.00 for it including the stand and light system.

3 THe other tank also on Craigs list is a 30 gallon hex tank. He says everything is included including live rock and snails BUT its not currently being filtered.... so wont they all be dead? He only wants 100.00 for the set up including stand so its not a bad deal in that respect... just not sure about the rock and sand

I am not always on the forum so could you please email me at crossmanfarms@live.com?

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. Without the center brace framing, the tank may bow and split the seams eventually. It needs to be replaced/repaired. I would just get a new tank because I wouldn't risk it with that type of damage.

2. Biocubes are good. Depends on what you want to keep in your tank. I always think bigger is better, but I've been people set up cool nano reefs in these cubes. People always looking to upgrade and go bigger. So, I would get a tank size you want from the get go. Also, I think $200 is a lot. I think they are $250 brand new.

3. Not a fan of hex tanks at all, but its personal preference. Like I said, its all dependent on what you plan on keeping. Live rock can and snails can live without filtration for a while, as long as the temp is right and there is circulation.

Careful in buying other peoples used tanks. There are great deals but make sure there are no defects. Also, with the live rock/sand, make sure there is no pests. It can be infested with aiptasia or something. Ask if they ever used copper in their tanks to treat, which is bad if you want to build a reef.

Good luck.
