Chromis holocaust
Ok so the title is a little exaggerated, but I thought it would get ur attention!
I have had 2 chromis casualties in the last month along with a cleaner. Tank 2 weeks ago: Chromis x2 Cleaner shrimp x2 Damsel x1 Snails n crabs No amm or nits present. Until the first chromis and passed obviously a rotting carcass. A week later I added that second cleaner shrimp and that died off the next day. So 1 week ago: Chromis x1 Damsel x1 Cleaner shrimp x1 Snails and crabs All my levels were normal once again and this chromis died. I never watched the damsel kill it but I have a hunch it may be a killer damsel. Every time Before one of the chromis casualties I would always just see them hiding from the damsel. Is it possible for the damsel to kill the other chromis off because of lack of space? My lfs said their chromis are 50/50 in their survivability. So I just don't know what to think. I'm so fed up with these "hardy" fish. Tanks been running for a couple of months. The cycle only took a couple days cuz I used live rock live sand mostly established water. I'm just frustrated. |

Damsels are vicious little guys, especially when cramped in a small tank. And Chromis aren't exactly that hardy, and shouldn't be a cycle fish.

-so you added livestock just after a couple days of setting up the tank? -if so the tank may not have been fully cycled yet, while its true that you used live rock and sand and mostly established water, the system still would have a cycle period to stabilize and this is usually longer than just a couple days even when using live rock, sand and established water. -an unstable, not fully cycled system would add stress on the fish, this coupled with the added stress of an aggressive damsel could most certainly spell disaster for your chromis |

what size tank?
Also, Chromis will attack their own kind... so it may not be the damsels fault.

There was no amm or no2 present, only after a fish died. But there was still trace amounts that could harm the fish that survived the first death and the second.
The tanks is a 26 bow with a 15 sump going to add a 20 fuge soon! |
