Question feeding with skimmer?

ive read on here a few times that people turn off their skimmers while feeding. why?

Certain foods may cause the skimmer to overflow.

Also, if you're feeding phytoplankton or broadcast feeding, you don't want the skimmer to remove the nutrients for corals right away.
