Pistol shrimp hitchiker...

So today i found out i had zoa eating nudibranch so i did a coral rx dip and will buy flatworm exit tommorow... anyways during the dip two small pistol shrimps fell out and were about to die so i put them in a regular saltwater container... i threw them in my fuge and im thinking there are a whole colony of them in that specific rock.... good or bad? what should i do?

I donated my pistol shrimp once I finally caught them. Besides opportunistically eating my ornamental shrimps and turbo snails, I didn't want to get my thumb sliced off whenever I aquascaped :P

They can make a loud "snapping" noise with their claws. In some cases they can even break glass (haven't heard of any such experiences on RC though). The force with which they snap is supposedly stronger than a bullet or so!

I think you're mixing up pistol shrimp and mantis shrimp.

I have at least 8-10 in my 180..... I swear they've reproduced. The largest is about 2.5 inches and the smallest that I've seen is less than an inch. Other than doing some excavating under my rocks they haven't been a problem at all. I rarely see them, only hear them, especially at night. At least in my experience, they haven't been a problem in the tank.

I love them. In the winter, the storms wash sponges up on the beach and I go collecting! Mostly small reds, but occasionally I get larger blue ones. When i go to the Keys, I sometime grab the striped ones.
