Do I have the right silicone?

Gathering the gear to build a sump. I picked up the 3M brand 100% Silicone (the only one Lowe's had) but I can't find any information anywhere online that says if I can use it or not. All I see is the GE brand. Has anyone else successfully used 3m or should I go out and find GE 100% Silicone I?

I searched for an ingredient list to compare GE's to the 3M one but couldn't find that information either.

3M ingredients (if it'll help) are:
siloxanes and silicones, Di-me hydroxy-terminated, solvent refined hydrotreated middle distillate, silica, ethyltriacetoxysilane. titanium dioxide, methyltriacetoxysilane. titanium dioxide, methyltriacetoxysilane

Thank you for the help!

not possitive but as long as doesn't say anything about mold/mildew resitant and its 100% silcone it should be the same thing

another thing to check is if it says FDA approved or NOT for FDA use, not all have that info though

I can never remember which one it is, but either my HD or Lowes carry a DAP 100% aquarium silicone in a smaller squeeze tube. This is usually in the other glues section, separate from the normal silicone selection. That's about the only thing I'd personally trust from those stores, either due to content or strength (or lack there of).

Shown here: http://www.google.com/products/catal...762449369&sa=X

Actually, from that link, it looks like it's Home Depot .

Edit: Due to Google's location tracking, not 100% sure that link would work, so just in case, they have it called: Dap 00688 Dow-Corning Aquarium Sealant, 2.8oz Aquarium Sealant

Thanks all,

I don't feel comfortable enough to use the 3M so I'll take it back and keep a lookout for the DAP one.

If you have a Grainger in your area, they'll have what you need.RTV-103 and RTV-108 are the right ones. One is black, the other clear.

Are you building this sump from scratch, or are you just putting baffles into a glass tank?

If it's just baffles into a glass tank, then any aquarium safe silicone should be fine.

If you are actually building the whole sump, you need a stronger adhesive such as the RTV103/108 mentioned in the previous post.
