yellow tang barb problem

i have had my yellow tang in QT for about 3 weeks and until last night looked fine. I notice now that on one side, the white barb appears to be really raised and looks like its splitting?? What could this be?

I wish I could help. I've been watching to see if anybody had any ideas.

My personal opinion (and that's all it is), the 'spike', 'blade', 'barb', whatever, is hard like bone (or maybe fingernails) and shouldn't be a problem. It may even 'grow' out. Really not sure about that. But I really don't think it's a serious issue for your fish.

Good luck and I'll keep watching.
