Frogspawn was doing great, until today!
So I purchased a frogspawn coral about a week ago and it's been doing awesome, flourishing all day, and sleeping @ night... Well I bought 2 ocelleris clowns yesterday and my yellow tail damsel was harassing the hell out of them so i decided it was time for him to go.. In effort to remove him I had to remove my LR from the tank along with my zoa's and frogspawn, I moved them to my QT tank... Well now that I've got the damsel out and returned everything back to my DT, the frogspawn still hasn't opened all the way up on all 3 branches... 2 seem to be doing ok, but one of the branches just doesn't look right...
This was before today.. And this was today after the rearranging process.. Any info is greatly appreciated.. |

One thing is that when I was putting everything back in the tank, i also replaced about 6 gallons of water that was removed during the damsel hunt, and when pouring it back in it may have come in direct contact with the frogspawn, would this kill it or just shock it..??

Hmm, it's hard to say what yours will do, what did it look like while it was in your QT tank vs. before you moved it into your qt?
Mine have looked as bad as that only two times, and have rebounded by feeding them. Not saying you should feed yours. Just saying that mine looked like that a couple times and it didn't die or anything. I was worried though during the time it was actually happening so i know how you feel. If it starts bleaching or you start seeing the tissue break down, or if it gets slimy, then it would be more of a right away today concern for sure. But i'd just keep watching it closely just incase.

It's probably trying to poop. They pucker up like that from time to time. As long as your parameters are within reason, it should bounce back.

its probably just really ticked off from all the moving!! they are tempermental that way lol
when I first got mine.. that night, my 2 peppermints attack his skeleton and ate all the goodies.. he looked like yours for a few days.. then just popped out like nothing happened keep an eye on him.. I know how you feel!! I even posted and was so worried about him.. thought my peppermints ate him!! if it doesn't come back over the next few days.. then I would def start to worry!! unless it starts showing other signs of distress before then

check alkalinity, calcium and mg. If your alk and cal are down, dose mg, then buffer.

So do you feed it by just adding calcium and alk, because I try to use a baster and give it some mysis but it doesn't seem to latch on to any.. Quote:

My frogspawn and torch corals also get most of their food from the par in the lights i use. I've never fed it mysis. I do want to try that though. I've fed it 'reef roids' or 'coral frenzy' and some minced clam once a month, with a turkey baster and it loves it. Their tentacles need to be out though to accept food so yeah i can see why yours wouldn't accept food yet. I had to wait a couple days after i placed it in my tank till it started coming out again and then i gave it a light bit of food and it accepted it. Nowadays it only pinches up like that if they're pooping A couple things (you may already know) about moving them. They don't like to be out of water, so so they should only hit air a couple seconds as you move it in to your tank. Also, hold them upright, instead of upside down when you're moving it, so their tentacles don't droop down (because of gravity) causing possible tissue damage.

2 of the 3 heads seems fine, a little smaller than usual (as if it's holding back from blooming completely) but that 1 just doesn't look so good... I don't know if it's still constipated and just being stubborn or if it has something going on... Do you recommend I try to add some of that coral additive to help promote it back to normal health again..?? Thanks in advance.. |
