Quick question about frogspawn
Hi,
I picked up a frogspawn coral yesterday (my first coral addition to my tank). I've been having difficulty finding a good spot for it. I finally found one and it's about 1.5-2feet away (almost directly in the line of flow) of my koralia evolution 1050gph powerhead. While in my lfs I was told that they need to be in an area of no or little flow or their heads will be torn off. Is this too much flow? Thanks,

I would not consider Frogspawn a low flow coral. They like a medium to medium/high flow with strong lighting. 18" from a 1050 should not be a problem. I have one sitting about 4" from a Koralia 750 and it's doing well.

Yep. Frogspawn need medium flow. The polyps should not be still but not being blasted either. Placement for light really depends on the light. Moderate to low light is best in my opinion for best coloration. Too much light and it will look faded and slightly transparent. For instance my frogspawn is under 2 250 watt halides in my 75g. I keep it on the bottom drectly under the light. They also do better when securely mounted to the rockwork. Just make sure you give him space as they are agressive and will sting nearby corals.

My fropspawn sits on the sand of my Biocube, with stock pc lights, and is very happy with the light it receives.

Thanks for all the input. It sounds like it should be ok where it is. I would consider it being under medium flow and I'm using a 400w metal halide.. and it is sitting close to the bottom of my tank. It's approx. 25in below the light. I'm assuming it will be fine under these light conditions. I can always raise and lower my light if needed. I also purchased an open brain and red-green favia so I need to take those into account too with the lights.
I was thinking of crazy gluing the frogspawn and favia where they are.. but they seem fairly secure already.

They are not a low flow coral, but they are also not a direct flow coral. If you blast it directly with your powerhead, the heads WILL be torn off. Place it somewhere where the heads seem to pulsate (for lack of better words). That seems to be the best spot for me.
