reeflux 12k causing corals to do poorly?
Does anyone have this bulb and not having a good response from the corals?
I have only a few corals: Elegance, bubble, hammer, montipora digitata, xmas rock (porites), and pulsing xenia. Everything, except the bubble and xenia have been doing pretty badly in my tank. All my params are good: pH 7.9-8.1, temp 82-84, nitrate 0-3, phosphate 0-0.03, Ca 420, Alk 3.0, Mg 1400. Good flow and wave action, 65 gallon tank. The only bulb is one reeflux 250 watt 12k. The hammer only partially opens. Sometimes it opens decently, but the tentacles look "messy". The bubble is as far from the bulb as possible on the bottom, far right of the tank. (the bulb is on the left side of the tank). The porites are doing ok (they are new), next to the bubble coral. The xenia is doing ok, half down the tank under the bulb. The elegance and monti are doing pretty crappy. Both are on the bottom of the tank now. The moti seems to be doing slightly better on the bottom. They both seem to do even better when the tank canopy is raised, thus raising the bulb higher off the tank. The light is very blue, much more than expected for a 12k by the way. Does anyone else have a bad experience from these bulbs? I don't know what else to attribute my tank's bad "health". Thanks |

Do you run carbon? Is the bulb new? Perhaps they are photo shocked, which would explain why some are doing better at the bottom of the tank. How long do you run the lights?

I ran Reeflux 12K since they came out and never had any issues. I have just recently change to Radiums but not because Reeflux where bad. Lamp lasted between 12 and 18 months. What type of lighting did you have befiore switching to these?
