Anyone have AI Sols and the tank looks wonderful?
Not to be controversial, but the other thread has really scared me.
Not just for AIs, but for all leds. AI has just been around longer. The cost of electric here is astronomical, so leds are a godsend. . But any led tank that looks great would be most welcome here right now. so if you have an led tank that you love, please let us know. thanks all |

I've noticed you've been very active in a ton of LED related threads recently.
Have you seen ANY tank in person lit with LEDs yet? I would advise to take any evidence with a grain of salt and hold off purchasing any unit until you see a tank in person lit with LEDS. The look is very "different" than your typical halide or t5 set up. I can't put my finger on it myself, but the tanks just have a different look to them (whether they be successful or not) that I am just not feeling. There are quite a few links on that thread you referenced above on tanks doing really well that are lit by the LEDs and look great growth wise.

im sorry to hear that OP. um i would say look up reef tanks with leds on youtube. personally when i see tanks on leds i love them! they look so cool. I never really liked the MH light look so LEDs are probably my favorite lights on a tank.

I love the extra control you can get with LEDS (even though most of the functions are purely for aesthetics). My reef club has a meeting coming up where a local LED Light builder is swinging by to demo some of his units and for us to Par Test them. Once I see them in person I'll make my final decision. I'm trying to light a 36" x 36" x 18" tank.... so it's tough for me to nail down exactly how many units I'll need for the AI or Radion if go that way. It doesn't seem LEDS are very good at spreading decent amounts of light past 24" width from what I've found.

I think I like the look from the DIY fixtures when they make them linear instead of pendents....to me the pendents look like your car headlights in the fog.
I would think that would make the PAR more uniform around the tank.....NO? Just like the way MH and T5's are being implemented now. |

Reefkeeper2, a former TOTM, is reporting great success using the AI SOL blues. Do a search and check out his tank on Youtube and I think this should help to allay your concerns.

So far I am VERY happy with my results. At the beginning you will get some die-off from burning the crap out of the corals if you are NOT careful. I DO like the AI + Profilux controller. I am very happy.....
And even HAPPIER when I get my Florida Power and Light bill!!!!!!!

I have an LED lit tank and I love it. I will say LED's don't photograph well at all. My pics are always crap but the tank looks great in person. FWIW I am using two Apollo Reef LED pendants over a 30" long 93 gallon cube. They are not dimmable.

I just switched from T5 to AI Sol a few months ago and I love them. My only issue was getting the intensity tuned to what I needed, like others have said.
