Aiptasia Gone....(No, REALLY)
Been a while since I've visited here. From a daily regular for 6 years to a once every 2 months guy...how pitiful. Working on an outbreak of hair algae in a formerly pristine tank brought me back (rats!!!!).
Thought I'd share a success story relative to this very same tank. I was fighting (as a lot of you have) aiptasia...the usual methods....Joe's Juice, home-made concoctions (kalc paste mostly), etc. etc. I finally bought a filefish (Acreichthys tomentosus) and lo and behold....I even forgot I ever had aiptasia.... In fact, the more amazing thing is, I've NEVER actually seen the filefish eat one. The little bugger just goes about his business...keeps a low (very low) profile...and keeps the tank spotless (pest anemone-wise). Eats big ones, little ones, ones on the glass, near my stupid damsels' hidey places (where no fish or finger dare intrude normally) Now if he'd just eat freakin' hair algae, I'd be all set. Good to see you all still at it here at RC. Grunfeld in Detroit P.S. I already tried a dark tank for 3 weeks, a sea hare and other critters....I only feed 2 or 3X per week....so now I'm going the chemical route on this hair algae (did I hear a gasp from the RC crowd?) |

Probably not a bad idea...my bio-load is relatively low....a pinktail trigger, 2 clowns, a damsel, a gobie and the filefish in a 125 with 2 20 gallon sumps....
I need the foxface's color in there as well |

Those filefish are amazing. I had a thick forrest of aiptasia everywhere. Now they're all gone. I was so happy that I didnt mind too much that it started on my polyp colonies. I had to move them to my 34 gallon.
