Did I get a good deal on a 150 gallon set up??? - Page 3

wrbrackett...I am into my 150 reef tank about $8k now as a startup. You feel a little better now? I also bought new and went top of the line on everything. Something I will only do once (until I upgrade) and the family loves it. My wife and kids each picked out the fish they wanted and we watch the tank, like a tv, during feeding time. It really is a great hobby and definitely addicting. So addicting that I not only have a webcam for my display tank but for the basement sump as well just to check on things while at the office. I picked up my two clowns tonight and put them in per my lfs instructions.
So far they are doing great and look amazing in the tank.......
My 6 year old picked them out and loves them.

where did you get a 240g acrylic for that? When you say all filtration are you talking sump, skimmer, return pumps?

Back to the main post it sounds fair for buying from a lfs, I would of went without the canister filter and UV though. The 6 months maint. will be a great value too since it's your first tank.

I would say that you paid a fair price for it all. I paid $1k on a 125 set up that came with major issues!! Those issues are being fixed, and then I am treating myself with upgrades that I want to use(hhhmmmmm LEDs and a ReefKeeper Elite controller). The LEDs are going to run me more than I paid for the tank, but they will at least allow me to keep SPS and clams in the future, unlike the VHO bulbs I have now. I can say though for a decent set up that I was going to get until the owner sold it before I went to pick it up!!!(really ticked me off!) was a 150 gallon tank with a sump, skimmer, bad lights(I am upgrading on the tank I got anyway), biopellet reactor, gfo reactor, sand, LR, and a UV sterilizer. All of that with the tank, stand, and canopy was for $750!! I would have gotten new rock as his wasn't looking very alive, and he was going to keep about half of it because it was valuable to him. But I could have gotten all of it set up for about $3K after I was finished adjusting it myself. Congrats on the tank though, the hobby is addicting.

I have a different opinion about utilizing UV. It's a good equipment to have for fish only tank to keep the water clear and reduce the chance of ich developing on the fish. I had two instances of ich outbreak, and in both cases, running UV helped the fish to fight it off effectively.
