how long before you move a coral?

Hi all,

This last saturday night, I put a trumpet coral in my tank (Along with a new zoa colony). The zoas are doing awesome, but the trumpet isn't inflating itself at all. At night, it put sweepers out, but never inflates himself during the day.

How long should I leave him where he is before I should move it? I super glued the skeleton to some rock, so it would probaby be some stress to get him off the rock and get the glue off his skeleton. I think the flow might be too low for it where it is....

Yes sir, patience is key, and very difficult, but a must in this hooby. It should be fine as long as your water quality is in check. They tend to do that at first and should blow up alittle in a few days or even more. It will do it when its ready. Sometimes even after months or years they just do deflate from time to time, nothing unusual. Good stuff!

I'm in the same boat, but not too stressed. Added a purple trumpet, 2 heads on Sunday. This morning with lights out the center was inflated, and I could peer some feeding tentacles. I figure it should look better as time goes by. I have it half way up my tank in the middle with moderate to moderate/high flow, but that's not saying much in my little cube, LOL! GL.

I put mine in a place with low/medium flow because I was thinking about aquascaping more than the right place for it in my tank :-(. I wish i would have put it on the other side of the tank, but I don't want to stress it out any more. Last night, no sweepers came out to play. The flesh is also starting to turn darker.

If the coral has been in the same place for a few days and it isn't happy I would have no issues moving it to find a spot it likes. It doesn't sound like its doing too well where it is. Of course this assume water quality is where it needs to be.

I'll do the full set of tests when I get home. I have to assume that it they are in check though as everything else in the tank is doing well and the last time I tested about a week ago or so, it all checked out.
