Skimmer slide valve question?

Hello I have a euroreef skimmer... not sure which model... but it has a slide valve I guess is what you call it?

I have no idea what adjusting the height does, can somebody help explain it? I figured that as long as the valve is outside of water it's fine, but from what I'm reading it helps fine tune the skimmer? Can somebody help me explain? Thanks

it raises or lowers the water level in the skimmer to skim wetter or dryer.

Before you get crazy, be sure to let the skimmer break in (about one-two weeks). Then when you make adjustments, make very, very small changes. I have a EETS skimmer that has a slide gate and when I make adjustments its so slight that its barely visable. A change too quick can cause a flood. You've been warned.

There are a few other variables to consider with skimmate production. How deep is the water that your skimmer is sitting in. I ran an ASM (Euroreef clone) for a while and it really wanted about 8.5-9" of water at all times.

I was assuming you have a skimmate collection cup outside the sump.
