Need ID on crab! Molt?
Hello, I'm new here and recently set up a BC14 a few months ago. It's been running successfully until 3 nights ago I woke up to find one of my two clowns dead laying on the sand. (Yes I know the tank is too small for them, I have a 100G I will be moving them into once I get more experience). So I took him out, did a water change and then noticed what look liked Ich on the other fish a day later. I took him into my LFS and they confirmed its Ich and are going to try and treat him with copper.
Now, yesterday I woke up to my Emerald crab laying dead on the sand upside down, atleast I thought he was dead. I figured maybe the water is trashed from the fish dying. (Nitrates 10, Amonia 0, PH 8.1) So I threw the crab away, I get home today to find a entirely different looking crab that appears to be double the size that my emerald was. Mine was literally about half the size of this one that appeared out thin air. I also have a sally lightfoot crab so I can compare his size to this new one vs the old. It's not just the claws but the whole body its self is atleast twice the size. Not to mention on his legs they look very spikey like the sally lightfoots, my little emerald didnt look like that at all. I've had my original emerald for a few weeks now. Here are a few pictures, did he just molt and this is what he looks like now or what? |

The "crab" you found dead was a molt. You now have a larger emerald crab. They grow fast.
