Temp Probe location??

Im not sure if this has been answered but what do you guys think, should my temp probe be in the main tank or in the sump... i figured with the large volume of water in the display tank there should be cooler tempratures than in the sump ? wrong ?

I have mine in the first chamber of my sump and my heater in the third (return) chamber with the thought that the probe is reading the temp coming in from the DT which is probably going to be the most accurate

Correct, but in my first chamber i also have the pump for the skimmer that may produce heat as well and give an off reading ?

For safety, they should be in the same chamber as the heaters. Think about what would happen if water stops flowing through your system.. heaters would keep heating water in an area where the overtemp is never detected by the probe. It's really the only safe solution to keep them in the same chamber, IME. JMTC & GL!

That is very true, i never thought of it that way.with a probe in the DT and the heater in the sump, if the return fails, water in the DT will drop and the controller will demand the heater to heat the sump water. But with no water going to the DT, the sump will keep heating and boil my fuge !!! bad idea lol heaters do have cut off with there temp control but still risky

I wonder how hot the first chamber would get by the time the third chamber would detect it, if flow through the sump would stop for some reason..

yeah i was thinking the same! i wanted to put my heater in the first area which flows through a bubble trap to the return where i wanted the temp probe..hmmmm i wonder if it will still heat it too much

I have mine in the first chamber of my sump, together with my heater, skimmer and GFO reactor, together with the overflow from the DT there is plenty of flow in that chamber to give me an accurate reading IMO

And there is no worry if the circulation would stop.
