Ecoxotic Panorama Linkable? No? Why?

Hello all,

Ok, I have a 34g Solana tank and have been building my lighting instead of buying the ready fixture. Just because of cost reasons. I also have a reefkeeper 2. Right now I have 2 of the old style Panorama 12w lights and one of the new Actinic stunner strips. The old style Panorama lights came with a built in 12w power supply. So, for three lights I have three plugs into my reefkeeper 2 and now I want to add more lights. My local store has no more of the older Panorama lights only the newer ones, which can be linkable and the power supply is a 60w separate module. So, if I wanted to add one more light, I would have to buy a separate power supply for the new light and then have 4 light plugs into my reefkeeper. I would LOVE to buy one more light, one 60w power supply, and a splitter. Have all three daylights on one plug. Problem is that Ecoxotic says that the old lights are not linkable. From what I can tell they have the same quick disconnect and both the separate and integrated power supplies have similar ratings. The separate one is rated for 60w and should be able to handle all three lights. I'm wondering if they are saying that the old Panorama lights are not linkable because of the 12w power supplies or because they just want you to buy the new lights. I still think I should be able to buy one of the new Panoramas, 60w power supply, 3 way splitter and hook my 2 old Panoramas up giving me a total of one plug for daylights and one plug for my stunner actinic. The two old 12w power supplies would then not be used.

Any thoughts from those of you out there smarter than me?

Thanks.

They are different voltages and thus it won't work, just like Ecoxotic said.

The new modules are super nice and I love them. I bet you could sell your old Panoramas and get the new modules.

I talked to Ecoxotic and they said you can use an aftermarket power supply and power them both. They don't offer it because of cost reasons.
