Get rid of fuge for skimmer?
Hi I got my 46 bowfront reef cycling right now and tried my SWC 120 protein skimmer the other day. The way my sump is the skimmer can only go in the third section where the return pump is unless I get rid of my deep sand bed in the fuge section(middle section). In the third chamber the skimmer makes tons of microbubbles that get sucked into the return so I was thinking of getting rid of the deep sand bed and putting the skimmer in there. Will the bubbles go away after it's broke in? Will the skimmer alone take care of nitrates for this size tank. Filter sock over the output? What are your thoughts? Thanks

On tanks I set up with skimmers and fuge with limited space I will usually put the skimmer in the last chamber and plumb the output of the skimmer over to the return side of the sump. If there is air bubbles getting to the other side of the fuge I build a small rock wall through the fuge. This usually catches all the air bubbles before it can get to the return pump.
