Baught a new house and will be upgrading from our current 90 gallon.

So the wife and i finally purchased our new home. We both love our current 90 gallon reef tank and really want to upgrade when we move. Our 90 gallon will be moved when we move into the house so we dont have to rush to put together our new tank.

What we want:

We want more swimming room, would really like a 6' tank. We were thinking 125 but not sure if the shallower height would be a turn off for us. A 150 is very tall and not sure i want that due to the extreme depth. Would be very difficult to reach in the tank. A 180 is just to big (wide) we think for the area we have to put the tank in. Do you guys have any opinions on these tank sizes?? I wish there was a size that was just a little taller than the 125. is the 30" height of a 150 really a pain to work with and light??? This will be a from scratch build so everything will be new. Also some suggestions on equiptment. I currently have a euroreef rs-80 skimmer sitting in storage that needs a new pump will this skimmer be enough if i purchase a new pump for it?? or should i sell it and the coralife skimmer im using now and buy a new one?? I really dont like the coralief skimmer its very finicy.

Hey there,

We just moved as well, and have had a 120 for some time. We are going with the Marineland Deep Dimension 150 cube. I love the 36 x 36 dimensions, and the height is 27 inches....but if you do a DSB, thats not too bad...if not, just a little more effort.

Let me know what you decide!

Pat

As of now we are def leanong towards the 125 but were going to go look at a set up 150 tomorrow. Also would 3 250 metal halides be sufficient for a 30 inch deep tank??

i think you mite like the 150 a little better i ran 3 175s over my old 150 looked great could grow zoas on the bottom very well with the right reflectors you should be able to run 2 250s

Get some lumenarc/lumenmax reflectors and 3 250s will be plenty fo rthe tank. I had a 125g freshwater tank and, while it was nice, the 150g tanks are much better IMO. I just like the layout more.

Also, you always have the option to have a tank built for you. The options are endless if you do that.

I have a 125. Don't like the lack of front to back depth. The height is fine for me though.

yeah im a little worried about the front to back depth, but i dont really have much more to work with, i truly wanted a 180 but i just dont think space will permit.

As far as lighting, I'm actually gonna go for 3 x AI Sol LED units for the 150 .... I'm forever done with MH...heat...$$....etc...
