Thanks for all the input guys! I've decided to keep the canopy (for now at least). I checked out the vertex illumina led's on the weekend, but just can't manage to drop $2k on lights when I'm not convinced they'll be as good as halides. I decided to get a second 250W halide with a lumenmax elite reflector & vertex ballast. I'm going to run 2 x 250W 20K radiums plus 2 x 39W actinics. I got a fan to add into the canopy just to be safe, but it's vented so hopefully heat won't be a concern. Still a long ways away from up & running, but one step closer at least

I would go without the canopy, rimless tanks are so nice looking... (I know you have already decided)

I love rimless and prefer that look, that being said I agree with your decision- that is a great looking canopy and with the size it doesn't dominate the room.

I like the rimless look, but I would not want to sit across from it at the table with the light shunning in my eyes

I like open tanks when they are in an area that is open...a few feet of space around it. Canopies look better in crowded rooms. Your tank is small enough so maintenance shouldn't be too difficult. I couldn't imagine trying to kill an aiptasia in a corner of a large canopied tank.
