Need Advice on sump
I am about to go get the glass cut for my baffles and i need some advice so i get the cuts right the 1st time.
Running a 60 gallon sump 48"x15"x16"(LxWxH) I have an ASM G2 skimmer so I'll need 8"-10" high for the skimmer chamber. I measured it out and marked it with dry erase on my sump and it just makes the fuge seem way too shallow. I was planning to run it with the drain into skimmer section (11" wide), followed by the fuge(24" wide), 3 baffles for bubble trap(~3" wide), and finally the return (10" wide). It looked good on the tank markup except I'd like the fuge and return sections to be deeper than 9" and I'm at a loss as how to accomplish this. I realize a sketch would help this post but I'm not so handy with sketch up. I may try to get a bad paint rendering in soon here. Any advice on how to make my fuge and return areas deeper would be greatly appreciated, I want to get the glass cut right the first time.

raise the baffle between the drain/skimmer compartment and the refugium. Just build a platform for the skimmer out of PVC pipe sections and plastic eggcrate so it sits in 8"-10" of water.

I was thinking that might be the only way, I'll have to measure under the stand to be sure the skimmer will fit if raised a couple of inches. a 12" inch deep fuge section would be sufficient correct?

Just make sure that you keep enough room for the water to flow back into your sump it there is a power outage. You don't want to have a flood.

Ok I made a rough sketch of the plan, the skimmer will sit on a 3 inch riser(not drawn in sketch) which will put it in ~9" of water. Does everything else look solid? I calculated it to be about 18 gallons of fuge. I was planing on using 1/4" glass for baffles, should i use thicker?

You don't give the height of the bubble traps between the refugium and return section, they should be 1/2" lower (11-1/2") than the skimmer baffle. I prefer to use the under/over under set-up for the bubble trap, it lessens the waterfall sound from the refugium to the return section. You probably don't even need a bubble trap, by the time the water traverses 24" of refugium, there won't be any bubbles in the water. I've had good luck with sloping a single baffle at about 30 degrees rather than at 90 degrees will also lessen the water flow noise. Lastly are you sure the sump section is large enough to handle all the water when the pump is off?

I didn't know the baffles going from the fuge to the drain needed to be shorter, I had them at 12" inches as well, which is why I didn't enter a height for them. I'm not sure if there will be enough sump left to handle the water if the pump is shut off, how can i calculate it? My other option was to go with a 9" baffle from the Drain/Skimmer to the fuge area (would make the fuge to return area baffle 8 1/2"). I just felt that may make the fuge to shallow. is a 9" deep fuge sufficient?

You should calculate the volume of water your tank holds until it drains below the overflow, then you know how much extra water your sump needs to be able to hold in case the pump shuts off and the siphon continues.

Ok so I measured from the bottom of my tank to the very bottom of my overflow teeth and it is 21 3/4".
21.75*72*24/231=roughly 162 gallons still not sure how to calculate if the sump will hold total system volume when pump is off

Ok Guys, got the glass cut today, and edited the plans a little bit based on the input, does it look like it'll work?
