cat drank copods, amphipods :(

ok, I got in a shipment of pods, my cat decided to help himself, does anyone know if I have a problem on my hands? He used to help hiimself to the frozen brine that I was feeding my fish, I thought nothing of it, well, he got pretty sick and had to go to the doc, his stomach was upset. has anyone else had thier cat or dog inhale live pods?

There really shouldn't be much problem for your cat... I would imagine the only problem would be from all the saltwater that he lapped up with the pods.

Besides that, the copepods/amphipod diet is incredibly expensive for cats, and I would recommend that you start weaning them on larger pods, known as shrimp. That, or make pod piles around the house, and hopefully you can breed a sustainable population.

I would think it should be okay. They aren't toxic. I would keep plenty of water available to the animal. If the salt is too much, usually the animal will vomit. You may want to keep an eye out for this or other.. emissions. JMTC & GL!

He'll probably return them to you. But it's not good for his kidneys to ingest that much salt water. Provide him plenty of fresh water and clean his litter pan: he may be spending quite a lot of time on it. You might give your vet a call, especially if he's an old or very young kitty: they might want to shoot him full of fluids. And it's a good idea to keep this kitteh away from salty temptations.

I live in fear of something along these lines happening, which is why all my tanks are completely sealed on top, escept for cords for the heaters/etc. My cat would likely see them and knock it on the ground though, resulting in a little less saltwater intake and a lot more mess.
