supplementing frag tank with t5 to boost growth
What would be best t5 bulb option to supplement frag tank for growth?
Currently I have a 250w mh (XM 20k), in lumenarc mini, run on icecap ballast over the 40gal breeder. Color on most corals looks good (some montis are brown). Growth on all corals, especially sps, is suuuuuuper slow. Is the single 250w mh not enough? I was considering buying an icecap 660 ballast and trying to add a couple daylight t5 lamps to boost par. Any suggestions on brand/type? I tried changing out the mh bulb for a coralvue reeflux 12k to boost par and it was a disaster. Corals started bleaching, algae grew everywhere... don't want to do that again. I did use several layers of window screen material to shield the tank from the new bulbs and slowly removed them over the course of a month. Everything was good until I took off the last one, then hell broke loose. I igured with the t5 I have more control. Add one bulb at a time, only run it for a couple hours a day to start, etc. Last edited by jon99; 11/04/2011 at 09:00 PM. |
