Stocking a 125G
Hello everyone. I know, “another stocking question” but I am new to saltwater and any help would be great. I have had experience with Mbuna Africans cichlids for some time now and would like to move into saltwater. I am currently setting up a 125 gallon to be “reef” aquarium and I am just doing my research on what will be a good stocking line-up. My questions are: Is the below list of fish okay or should I modify it? How many of each fish is okay? (I have a number next to the name on what I thought would be okay.) I figured a few larger fish and a few smaller fish would be okay. Thanks for the help!
LARGE FISH - Xanthurus Cream Angelfish – One Fish - Foxface Lo – One Fish - Yellow Tang – One Fish - Last one I will purchase SMALL FISH - Tail Spot Blenny – One Fish - Ocellaris Clownfish – Two Fish, if that will work? - Firefish – HOW MANY??? I have read a few different opinions - Yellow Watchman Goby – One Fish Last edited by cemyth; 11/18/2011 at 03:36 PM. |

No expert, but you may have trouble with the tang and the angel. Both are territorial!

Right. I think I will remove the Yellow Tang. Not my favorite anyways.
How about this list? What about numbers? Are the numbers I have okay? As for the Firefish, what are good quantities? One or ??? Stocking list looks good. Angels are iffy with Corals. Some wouldn't consider them reef safe. So, if you are going reef and get into the higher end corals, Angels could be risky. I have a Yellow tang in my 90 as well as 2 occellaris clowns and two firefish. So, you should be good with them. You could do a number of small fish of the same kind, don't have to just get 1 with a 125 gallon IMO.

I Love this hobby. Thanks for all the help everyone. I do plan to ad more fish as I get more confident. This stocking list gives me a good start to go with. I am a not so sure about the angel at this time. (I would like to have coral) If I do deiced to go with the angel I will do my research and most likely ad it last to the tank.
Does anyone have any other ideas of good fish that I could ad to my list that would be acceptable for a beginner and reef safe? |

Cream angel will outgrow a 125, and there are the issues re: coral as mentioned above.
I have kept two firefish in my 125 without any problem, I may have a pair though.

DrBeglke,
I see you are located in the phoenix area. I live about 135 miles north of phoenix. What LFS do you recommend down there? |
