Need help with rock building
I'm just about to start biulding my reef, but have no idea where to begin. I think once I can get started, I'll be ok.
Here's the starting point: 120 gal tank 30 gal sump MRC3 skimmer DYI led lighting (72 lights - 2:1 blue/while ratio) Neptune Apex controller I have 120 lbs of dry Key Largo rock from Markos. I have cement, and threaded nylon rod. So, I stuck on where to begin the rock build. Like what should my aim be? Lots of swim throughs? a wall that extends from the floor to the surface int he back and sides? Are there simple 'rules of thumb' that i should follow? Thanks in advance for any help!!! MIchael |

As far as the design, it's personal choice. You can go for the Great Wall, or the pile-O-rocks, or the sloping hill, etc.
Whatever design you pick, just be sure it has lots of holes and passageways to promote proper water circulation. You don't want to create any dead pockets or areas with poor circulation. You can google "reef tank pictures" and get endless ideas. Find a style you like and go for it. |
