lol. it's the going rate apparently. I was looking at at 3" specimen but I couldn't do it for that much. I have a reef tank with fish not a fish tank with coral so my priorities are clear to me.

Why is it people always flip out about the size of tank for tangs and sharks but not angels(Or many other specimens)?

I think he is saying he'd rather spend big money on his corals.

Well...there's a small chance the 'CB' clowns were but honestly I've been boating on the south sure for a long time and even though I collected the water about 2 miles offshore I was worried about fertilizers, pesticides and other unknown crude. Maybe next year.

I purchased a very small (a bit less than 2") BHT in early August with only my 75g running. I had the 6' tank but it wasn't set up yet
That tang is now pushing 5" (in the 6' tank for 2 wks now). Fish growth is somewhat retarded when placed in a small tank but it is seldom in the best interest of the animal. When I caved in to my 2 y/o...and my own love of the fish, I have to admit; I was already planning the setup of the new tank and the fish was exceptionally small, to start with. Given the proper care, they can grow very fast. I never anticipated the fish to nearly triple in size, in 4 months. Had I not had the larger tank, I would have had the dilemma of giving the fish away, as I would never attempt to retard her growth with reduced feeding What you have to remember is this: These fish are Always available in the trade. This isn't a species that you're going to miss a once in a lifetime opportunity to attain. You will be MUCH happier to see her swimming in the larger tank, once you have it and will feel better that you waited...trust me. We've all had these moments at one point or another. My wife (and I) wanted a mandarin or preferably 2, which is hard to do. I explained to her, and myself, that with a new tank going up, there was a very distinct possibility that the pod population would be unstable, possibly causing problems with maintaining a live food source. Yesterday, I purchased a green, a red and a red dragonette from a local member. All are cohabiting in a 65g and eat frozen and even flake food I hate to sound cliche' but good things come to those who wait...especially in this hobby. You already know it's an unwise move and were looking for confirmation here. I don't know why there was so much flaming, and I hope none of this came across as such. I'm giving you the exact advice I would give to anyone I know who asked for it regarding this potential purchase |
