Another Noob Inquiry
The plan for my reef setup w/my 75 gallon tank is to put it on the first floor. With that being said the area that I want to put the tank is carpeted. I rent so I won't be able to cut up the carpet. Is it inadvisable to place a tank on carpet? With that being said does anyone have a suggestion to keep the tank stable if there is a solution?

ive got mine on carpet, i figured there would be enough weight to press it down and so far have had no problems..

+1 carpets fine as long as its level.
Just keep in mind that the weight of the tank will compeletely flatten out the carpet and pad. If you decide to move, the managers will see the flat carpet and may hassle you for that. Been there done that-LOL!

The carpet in this place is pretty much shot so I'm not really all that concerned about the potential flattening. The only concern for me is keeping that bad boy level. Thanks!!

Keep it a couple inches out from the wall to avoid the tack strip, then as you fill it the first time (I would just use tap water - no salt or anything) it will settle some. Shim as needed (composite shims from HD/Lowes are your best choice), then drain and fill with your rocks/saltwater etc.

No problem, just removed my 75g off carpet that it sat on a few years, no issues w/ the carpet under it at all. I do always put a towel down in front of the tank before any maintenance however.

Oh I fully intend on keeping a towel down for the mtc. I'm sure I will be cleaning up a bit of salt water when taking care of the tank.
