No...fully cured as in no need to cycle it, or leach out P04 from it...ready to swish in RODI and place in existing/running reef tank.
I was going to purchase some dry Pukani from BRS until I read how much P04 is inside of it.

I suspect he means rock that has been in a system/curing setup for a while, such that it is ready to go right into a tank and not cause a cycle.
The problem with such rock is, unless it is shipped in water(which equals weight which equals high shipping costs), it will probably have some die off and have a mini or full cycle anyways. Your best bet for fully cured rock is a local source; hobbyist getting out, LFS, ocean if your lucky! |

Tampabaysaltwater would probably be closest, but like Robb said, there will still be some die off.

I do not think there is any way to avoid a partial or full cycle type event when you change your rock. Buy the rock you want, cycle it in a trash can and add it to your tank, knowing that you'll probably still get a mini cycle in the tank anyway.

True, but close to fully cured live rock only takes a week or so and some swishing....
I do not want a brute running for 4-6 weeks in my apartment.

I suppose you could see if Bulk Reef would cycle it for you before shipping it.

I just ran a search and it looks like Blue Zoo aquatics carries it, also, Reef Systems Coral farms has it listed.

Take a drive to Aquatic Obsessions in NJ. Probably an hour or so from you. He gets good rock and a lot of it is fully cured.

You would be best to hit craigslist or the local forum if you have one. Wait for a tear down, and swoop it up @ $1/lbs.

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about. If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke. My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott. I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner. Have a great day but most of all, have fun. -PaulB Current Tank Info: 27 Gallon DAS softy/fish reef |

I've been looking for local breakdowns for a couple weeks with no luck. My local craigslist, although in the third biggest city in PA, is garbage.
Perhaps a trip to NJ is in order. My local LFS, while good, stocks loads of crappy fiji....never choice rock.

Call Aquatic Obsessions first...most LFS have the same issues keeping LR, and the choice pieces are snatched up immediately...Its always a challenge getting good rock...
thats why I go with dry rock and cure it myself...I live in an apt too, so I feel your pain...but a small stinky bucket for a month or so is well worth it. |
