Weird algae
Hello everyone,
I am writing here because I have a critter in my tank I need help identifying. It looks like a type of hair algae but if you touch it it retracts into the rock. It is a little more brown looking the the hair algae I have seen. Any help or info is appreciated. It is next to my zoas and doesnt seem to bother them. |

Sounds like aptasia or maybe a feather duster

I do know what the aptasia and feather dusters look like and this isnt them. Its kind of a mass on the rock about maybe two to three inches coming out of all the holes on the rock. When it is touched it goes in the rock and you cant even tell it was there until it comes back out.

My guess would be aiptasia or majano anemone as well. Does it come out during the day, or night? A picture would really help too. I'm sure you'll get a positive ID with a photo.

It is out constantly day and night and like I said it just looks like hair algae but I will try and post a picture. Just so everyone knows I have been in the hobby for over four years so I know most of the creatures in my tanks. This is just something unique that I have never seen. I have a 90 gallon reef and a 28 gallon nano. This is in the nano.
