HELP!!! My RO/DI unit isn't working :(

I just replaced the sediment, carbon block, RO membrane, and DI cartridge on my RO/DI unit and its not working correctly. The water comes about an eighth of the way up the DI cartridge and then stops and I get no water except for that running out of the rejection hose. PLEASE HELP! What could be the problem? Could I have packed the resin too tight?

Thats what I had thought at first, but I took it out completely and I had the same problem. It should be installed with the black ring facing up correct? Also, when I squeeze the drain line, the level rises slightly in the DI canister. Does that mean I dont have enough water pressure? or is the RO membrane damaged?

Did you change the flow restrictor? It's a small white fitting in your waste line you trim to achieve a 4:1 ratio. HTH

I'm not sure whether or not it actually has a flow restrictor...all the drain line has is the elbow fitting that connects it to the RO housing. I assumed it was in the elbow or something. is that possible?

It's in the line that connects to the elbow, pull the line out and you should see it.

I pulled the elbow out and it doesnt look like there is anything there. just the elbow which seems to be all one piece. what would it look like?

Remove each filter one at a time leaving an empty container to narrow down the problem.

I think i solved the problem. The elbow didnt have a flow restrictor in it, but the line that goes from the RO membrane to the DI canister had a metal piece inside of it, which i assume is the flow restrictor. i swapped the elbow to where the straight connector was and now I'm getting almost exactly a 4 to 1 ratio of drain water to RO water. is that about right? The flow restrictor is now on the drain, and the open one is going into the DI now.

What make/model is your RO/DI system? I've never heard of a metal flow restrictor, I thought they were all plastic.

the RO housing has a kent marine label on it. 3 clear canisters under the RO and a black metal mount. looks pretty close to this: http://c3.f3images.com/IMD/250/KM141...-System-99.jpg
