Need suggestions re: upgrading from 29 to 75
I'm hoping the experts can chime in to prevent me from making stupid mistakes as I attempt to upgrade from a 29 to a reef-ready 75.
I'm planning on using only BRS reef-saver rock and non-live sand, with a piece or two of LR from the established tank. Left to my own devices, I'd be tempted to set up the new 75 gallon adjacent to the established 29g and plum the two tanks together but I'm guessing I should probably cycle the new tank first? Since the new tank theoretically won't have any die-off, could pluming the tanks together allow the bacteria to transfer? I should also note that I've got a bit of bubble algae that I've been fighting, so perhaps I should treat the 75 as a first tank for this reason alone? Thanks in advance for your patience!

IMO plumbing the two together would transfer the algae to both tanks and the cycle from the new one would kill off stuff you want in the older tank. Take care of the problems you already have before you add new ones.
The biggest problem I have with this hobby is patience. Jumping into a new set of problems in addition to the older ones would likely send me into selling the whole lot of 'em! |
