Help me get rid of this UNKNOWN ALGAE!
I have a 90 galllon, 3' x 2' x 2', it has been running for 3 months, I have a pair of clowns (that are for sale), a chromis, a lawnmower, and a tailspot blenny. I have several frags that are all doing well. I do water changes about once every 3-4 weeks and I change 20-30 gallons of water I mix myself (red sea coral pro salt).
I have a SWC 160 protein skimmer, (2) koralia 1400 pointed at each other in the center for good flow. I just got a new light fixture a couple weeks ago 4 x 36 w T5. This picture shows the algae in question. I have tried to scrape it off and it is very hard to get off and when I do, tiny pieces fly. A friend of mine said he doesn't know what it is but it is not diatoms algae even though it looks like it because it is so hard to take off. He suggested to epoxy the surface area of the algae to keep light away from it. My LFS voted against the epoxy. Any I.D.'s or plans would be greatly appreciated. I have coraline algae growing and overall things look happy, however, this algae has been getting worse and is encroaching on frags now. Thanks in advance... -Sam Last edited by samschey; 12/27/2011 at 04:13 PM. |
