Best way to clean top of sand

I'm looking for any tips on how to clean up the top layer of my LS without stirring it all up. I want to get rid of the small pieces of rock/rubble that has accumulated. Looking for a way to sift out the sand and remove the pieces of rock.

Any tools made for this or a DIY one that I can make?

You could use a large mesh the sand would fall through. I have a bare botom except for my corners for my Wrasse to sleep in, but I use the crushed coral. Someone else may have a better solution for you.

Use a small fish net, or just reach in and pick it up ?

Reach in and get the big rocks. As far as cleaning the sand, if you have sump just use a tube and suck detritus and small layer of sand and sock before sump to catch it. Good cuc should keep the sandbed clean though.
