Restaining Wooden Cabinet in Place

We just replaced out lighting setup and as part of that decided to restain and varnish the canopy/hood while we had it off. Has anyone ever refinished a tank stand in place? I assume we will need to take precautions to avoid getting fumes in the tank, but would appreciate any insight into how best to safely accomplish this.

We are using a one step stain/sealer, and then adding a coat of Polyurethane over the top...

1 or 2 Clip on fans on back of the tank will keep vapor away provided it is not a tiny room. Then fan in doorway blowing out of the room.

OOps..Hit send to early..Also low VOC stain & varnish that is compatible with existing stain. A plywood cover and shut off skimmer/filter. This is assuming you are not using a sump? Don't think I would risk it with a sump.

u may wanna check into the MINWAX POLYSTAIN this is what ive used on my 75 gallon stand and now my 135 cube stand its nice as its 1 coat and ur done depending on the color ur trying to achieve. also a tip i learned when i was staining the skin wood was to use the wide foam brush as they leave a smooth finish with no brush marks also a good thing i meantion about the stain above is it comes in both satin and gloss poly
