noob intro
I thought I would introduce myself. I am new to the hobby My name is Robert. I am working out a deal with a guy that is getting out of the hobby. Here is the info on it.
180 gal acrylic tank 100 gallon sump Black oak stand nautilus protein skimmer phosphate reactor lighting fluidized bed. All running on a little giant pump. 250 pounds of live rock both premium and regular fugi rock 160 pounds of sand 2 saddle clowns 2 coral beauty angels 1 cleaner shrimp 2 fire shrimp 1 scooter blenny 1 lawnmower blenny 1 long spine sea urchin 4 green bubble tip anemones a wrasse but I don't know the name 2 neon fish pulsing zenia large frog spawn green star polyps purple star polyps a couple of species of starfish astra turbo snails nausurus snails and blue leg hermit crabs. The only thing I am worried about is transporting all this stuff. The guy lives about 45 minutes away from my house. I have a friend with a trailer, but I need to get containers to hold the rock and sand I have 2 coolers for all the livestock so that wont be an issue. I am still trying to figure out what to do with all this water. I hope to get it to my house between Christmas and new years. Any suggestions on how to properly move all this stuff? My guess is to bag all of the livestock and stick them in the cooler and close the lid. the Polyps, pulsing zenia, frog spawn and anemones leave them on the live rock and cover them with water rest of live rock put in a container with a little water. put tanks and stand on trailer and cover so they don't break. and figure a way to take as much of the water as I can with me. Try not to make wife made when I bring everything home lol If I have missed anything let me know. |

i will start with, get alot of rubbermaid bins. this is for the LR, keep it under water. lucky you only have 45 minutes to go. i would bag the livestock, you should put them directly into a QT when they get to your house, use the water thats in the bags for the QT and save a piece of sponge from the tank before you break it down and move it. this way you will have something to process the ammonia that will release when you open the bags. i would keep the livestock in the QT until the main tank settles and goes through its mini cycle from disturbing the sand bed and LR. the corals you will have to take a chance with and just do WC on the DT to keep levels from becoming toxic. it shouldnt take too awful long to cycle. i would keep as much water as possible and then do some WCs after you get it set back up to remove some of the waste. keep the skimmer going to remove some of the proteins.
that is alot of info in your post and mine so if i missed anything or if you have anymore questions just ask away. in a lesser capacity

That's a plan alright and I dont' envy that move. Brute trashcans to hold rock etc, you can reuse the trashcans to mix saltwater in / hold RO. Make sure that tank isn't super scratched since it's Acrylic. Make sure you start early in the morning, it'll probably take longer than you expect. Could buy a battery powered air pump / bubbler to aerate the water during the process

Wow that is a project and a huge jump into it. I would definitly try to use as much of the water as possible. I had to move my one tank which was only 34 gallons so I was able to place everything in 5gal buckets live stock had its own bucket rock had a few buckets so on and so forth. Keep the rock submerged so nothing on it will die off during the move. I guess I would use large totes or brute garbage cans if I were you. Good luck!
