Starting a new 240 gallon tank - Quarantine Question
Hey guys,
I'm going to be starting up a new 240 gallon acrylic tank here soon... just have the tank/stand/hood/lights now. My question is, after everything is up and running and cycled... what should I do when moving my fish/coral/live rock to the new tank. I've had a tang with on and off again ich, so I know there is some ich in the current tank. Should I quarantine every fish, coral, live rock, shrimp, snail, crab... etc... before moving them into the new tank? I don't want to transfer the parasite to the new tank. I might actually give the tang to a friend with the ich and let him quarantine it... I think the ich is from being harassed by a yellow tang constantly. Thanks |

I'm assuming your moving all the occupants from another established tank you have?
Quarantining each fish before placing them in the 240 would be the best way to prevent them from carrying over to the new tank. If one tang has ich, the other fish are possibly carrying ich as well so Q'ing just the obviously infected fish will not prevent reinfection. In fact the only way to get rid of all the ich in your current tank would be to make it fishless for 6-8 weeks.
