Reef Octopus xp1000sss skimmer

I have the above skimmer on a 4" platform in a 9.5" tall drain compartment, so it's essentially sitting in 5.5" of water. Turned the skimmer on and the water isn't even making it 1/3 of the way up the body-it just bubbles over the bubble plate and dissipates. Is something wrong with it?

How is the standpipe adjusted?

Twist the pipe until you get bubbles an inch or two below the neck.

yep, I would suggest 6 1/2" of water or more....my xp 160 sits in 8 1/2" and this is the bare minimum.

take the platform out and see how the skimmer does...u may have to adjust the water column level with the valve, but it should work better for you

I set up my 1000sss last night for the first time. Its sitting in 7" of water. I adjusted the valve till the water level got to the "MIN Water Level Mark". It will probably take a few day to break in but seems like its working as it should for now. Its very quiet and not putting bubbles into the sump. So far so good.

The reef octopus manual online states that the 1000sss should be in 5.5"-5.75" depth. It's just weird that the water goes into the body of the skimmer and just dies.

I think I've figured it out, there was some air trapped and it prevented the pump from working properly. There is a new problem though, the pump will stop and start every so often. Is it because of micro bubbles from the drain building up in the pump causing it to stop?

Did not know that Coralvue had a section on RC. Can the mods move this or should I repost there?
