Smile Sand dollar pieces??

We are in beautiful Destin Fl.. There are lots of pieces of sand dollars all over the beach. Will it hurt my 55 gal. aquarium if I put some of them in there? Also, some small shells. Destin does not have the shells that Myrtle Beach does. Since I am fairly new to this hobby I don't want to put anything in there that will hurt my aquarium. Tell me if you have any more suggestions. Thank you in advance for any information you can share with me.
Jeanie

also make sure it's dead first, unless you want live ones.
