New Tank Questions
Hey guys i just started my first marine tank! Im planning on having a 30gal FOWLR tank. Im 4-5 weeks in and my cycle still hasnt started. Ive read that it can take 6-8 weeks but i was still expecting to see some kind of change in the levels by now. So far the nitrite/ammonia levels are consistently at zero and the only thing that has changed is the nitrate...which has gone up to about a 10. Ive heard that having live rock in the tank while it is cycling can produce a "minicycle" and that might be wats going on...? Not sure if this is something most tank owners r familiar with or not buuuut any insight would be great.

a little more information about whats in your tank and the equipment you're running would be a great help
do you have fully cured LR in the tank? if so how much? and do you have any substrate? again how much? If you have fully cured LR in the tank that came from an established tank then the bacteria already exists on the rock and it's possible that the tank won't cycle much at all. have you tried introducing any kind of thing that would produce ammonia like ghost feeding or putting a raw shrimp in? I would try putting some fish food in the tank and see if you can get an ammonia reading that way.

well again it is quite possible that your tank has cycled.
I would put some food in the tank as if you were feeding some fish then test the next day to see if you get any kind of ammonia reading if you do, test everyday until it reads zero again, if you don't then most likely the tank has cycled

Just a suggestion if it's not too late, most people on this forum advise against crushed coral for various reasons. Might want to look it up.
