I think 72 is a bit too cool. Most people run reefs between 76 and 80 or 82. And remember, absolute temperature isn't any more important than holding temperatures rather stable. So if you decide to bump your's up, do it over a couple of days. And if you need to add heaters to do that, remember that 2 smaller heaters are better than 1 big one. One big one fails to turn off and you run the risk of cooking your tank. One small one fails to turn off and it takes much longer to create over heating issues.

Temp range is best 76-82. 72 is a bit too cool.

Is a 2 degree drop at night time too much? My temps are consistantly at 77.5 during the day. but sit at 75.5 at night.

If it were me I would push it up by 2 degrees but a two degree drop is fine. My tank ranges from 81 to 77 depending on season.

My tank is stable around 79 and fluctuates during the day with lighting by only .5 degree's.

2-3 degree fluctuation should be fine. It's an arguable point, but several experts say that a 2-3 degree fluctuation is actually good, and a constant temperature is not good.

I would still bump it up a notch so it does not go below 76, though.

Good info from all these guys, you don't want it dipping lower than 76 nor higher than 81.
